Jeff Goldblum
Goldblum was born in the Pittsburgh suburb of Whitaker, Pennsylvania, to Shirley, a radio moderator, and Harold Goldblum, a doctor. He has a sister, Pamela and an older brother, Lee. Another older brother, Rick, only lived to age 23. Both of Goldblum’s parents were interested in show business. His family is Jewish, belonged to an Orthodox synagogue, and were of Eastern European origin, with Goldblum’s paternal grandfather having immigrated from Russia. Goldblum moved to New York City at 17 to become an actor. Goldblum worked on the stage and studied acting at the renowned Neighborhood Playhouse under the guidance of acting coach Sanford Meisner. He made his Broadway debut in a production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. He is an excellent jazz piano singer and declared that if he did not act, he would be performing musically as a career. His film debut was playing a thug in the 1974 Charles Bronson classic Death Wish. He briefly appeared as a protester in the TV movie Columbo: A Case of Immunity (1975).

Van Damme was born Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg in Sint-Agatha-Berchem, in the Brussels-Capital Region, to Eliana and Eugene Van Varenberg, a belgian man, and an accountant and owner of a flower shop. He began martial arts at the age of ten, enrolled by his father in a shotokan karate school. He eventually earned his black belt in karate, later winning the European Professional Karate Association’s middleweight championship (although he has claimed that he was “twice world champion”). He also started lifting weights to improve his physique, which eventually led to a Mr. Belgium bodybuilding title. At the age of 16 he took up ballet, which he studied for five years. He says of ballet that it “is an art, but it’s also one of the most difficult sports. If you can survive a ballet workout, you can survive a workout in any other sport.”
James Dean was born to Winton and Mildred Wilson Dean at the “Seven Gables” apartment house, at the intersection of 4th and McClure Streets in Marion, Indiana. Six years after his father had left farming to become a dental technician, James and his family moved to Santa Monica, California. The family spent some years there, and by all accounts young Jimmy was very close to his mother. According to Michael DeAngelis, she was “the only person capable of understanding him.” He was enrolled in Brentwood Public School until his mother died of cancer in 1940. Dean’s “moodiness and antisocial behavior are consistently attributed to her loss,” and even in later years he still attempted to regain his mother’s “sense of understanding in all of his relationships with women during his acting career.”
